As you may already know, there are not many options available with regards to accommodation in Cuba. Here you can find all of the information of where to sleep in Cuba.
- Hotels
- Private homes
HOTELS
This is the most popular choice of accommodation in Cuba for the majority of tour operators, they usally offer full board or all inclusive. In Cuba there are hotel which are owned only by the state and others that private companies own half of.
Some have great service and others not so much!
But they do have something in common… they are all very expensive.
PRIVATE AND GUEST HOUSES
Private houses are very similar to Air B&B.
Renting accommodation was prohibited in Cuba until a few years ago, this rule was put in place to ensure that all of the tourists the country received, stayed in the hotels and consequently fork out a lot of money…
It is now legal however it is still highly controlled by the state.
All of the guest houses available have to be registers and are inspected by the state regularly.
In general the service is great, the houses are usually clean. Where to sleep in Cuba? We recommend these!!
There are certain families who do go that extra mile and dedicate more time to making their houses welcoming, but this does depend on the time, the day and the house.
Some of these houses offer the best services around: for example breakfast, lunch and dinner! The food is always of high quality and there is always a lot of it. Sometimes it is a better price than the food you will find in restaurants.
Some of these houses sell trips and other activities… obviously they take a certain amount for themselves, as commission, but it is worth it!
The only inconvenient thing about this type of accommodation is that they never respond to your emails quickly. Therefore it is better to do everything over the phone.
Private Houses in Havana
The best things about the private homes in Havana is that they are usually located between old Havana and Vedado.
There are also some that are located in Central Havana, which tend to be cheaper, but this also means that they are not as nice as the more expensive options.
Private Houses in Old Town Havana
If you want to stay in a historical and well known neigbourhood in Havana, where you can drink Mojitos in the Bodeguita and Daiquiries in the Floridita, this is the place you want to be! Here you will find some houses that we can reccomend, all of which have great reviews!

This is the zone in which all of the villas and 60´s style buildings are located. It is a residential area nmade up of orthogonal streets, a little decadent, but full of charm. You have to cross the whole Havana Center to reach Old Havana, it takes about 40 minutes approx.

VARADERO
Chuchi
Thishousecs
This house can be found near Calle 44, it is said to be located in the centre of Varadero. In fact, it is on Calle 40, inbetween the first and the motorway.
The bedroom is out of the way and has a delightful patio, full of weird and wonderful chairs, it is a great place to put your feet up and relax.
Chuchi and her husvand are great hosts.
What´s more her cooking is incredible… if you have dinner with them, you are in for a treat.
VIÑALES
Yereidi – 53311690 / Casa 048696817
Yereidi has 3 free bedrooms and very soon will have 5. One in inside the house and the other two are independent. It is a great house and the family are very welcoming, especially the grandmother.
The food is incredible, therefore we advise to you only buy breakfast and/or dinner.
You will also get the chance to go on a tour on horseback through the valley of silence where you will learn about the tobacco fields.
