STARTS IN REYJKJAVIK
Take the next step and throw yourself into the adventure of exploring southern Iceland. For those who want to get off the beaten track, you’ll not only get to trace the impressive Golden Circle and the capital, but also explore black sand beaches, feel your adrenaline rise behind waterfalls and enjoy the best views Iceland has to offer.
Today you’ll have the day to fly to Reykjavik (KEF) airport and whatever time you get in we’ll have a transfer waiting for you to take you to the hostel.
Get ready for the adventure of your life and the height of this trip. You’ll be picked up directly from your hostel in a bus in which each person will have their own wifi connected tablet. With this, you’ll be able to access an in bus audio guide available in 10 languages! Best option: bring your own headphones (if you forget them, don’t worry you can buy some on board!) You also have access to a USB charger, and an actual English speaking human guide who will be able to answer any questions you may have along the way.
You’ll start your trip by driving right by the active Hengill volcano mountain, through fields of lava and by the agricultural coastal landscape. You’ll discover the Westman Islands, an archipelago of 15 islands not far from the coast, and if you’re lucky, the Hekla volcano and the famous Eyjafjallajökull which exploded in 2010. The first stop will be at the Sólheimajökull glacier, where you’ll get the perfect glacial shot, before heading to a complete contrast: the Reynisfjara black sand beach. An incredible view of the waves breaking on black sand, the jagged sea stacks and massive basalt column cave: stunning.
Next, after being blown away by the wind on the beachfront, we’ll head to our next destination: the small town of Vik, which is the southernmost village in Iceland and the biggest establishment for 70km.
Making our way back to Reykjavik, we’ll stop at the powerful Skógafoss, waterfall. From the top, you’ll find one of the most spectacular views of the country, full of volcanoes, glaciers and black sand beaches. Finally, we’ll stop at the top of te 60m high Seljalandsfoss waterfall, which you can walk behind and get the best snap of the day.
Spoil yourself with in refreshment and relaxation after an action-packed few days in nature’s own spa: the Secret Lagoon. A must-do activity; visiting a geothermal spot is a definite tick on the bucket list.
You’ll be picked up from your hostel at midday and taken to the Flúðir countryside where an ancient but recently renovated geothermal lagoon awaits you. The temperature naturally sits at 36-40 degrees C, and you can soak the afternoon away while taking in the stunning natural scenery. Afterwards, you’ll be taken back to your hostel in Reykjavik and you’ll have the evening for yourself. Why not check out the guide to Reykjavik which we provide and find a spot for a traditional Icelandic dinner?
Are you ready to go explore? Iceland’s “Golden Circle” awaits; a trip that will take you to all the must-see natural wonders on the island in just one day! Once more, you’ll be picked up from your hotel in the high tech bus.
First stop, the founding place of the oldest parliament in the world: Thingvellir National Park. Here, you’ll find the massive tectonic plates of America and Eurasia which are ever so slowly drifting apart, and the Rift Valley, which sits on the shore of Thingvallavatn, the biggest lake in Iceland.
Next, off you’ll go to the famous Geysir hot springs. The Strokkur Geysir shakes the ground and erupts steaming hot water very regularly, so you’re sure not to miss anything!
The final stop on this day tour will be the stunning Gullfoss waterfall, where you can even make your way down to the edge of the water. It’s here that the forceful glacial river falls 32 meters into a canyon while making a booming roar.
Once your Golden Circle tour has come to an end, your driver will drop you back right where you started at your hotel.
After an adventure packed few days, today you have the chance to explore the petite city of Reykjavik at your own pace before your flight home. Though a small city on a world scale, Reykjavik was the first settlement in Iceland and today is still the country’s centre where almost two thirds of Iceland’s population live.
Start your day’s exploration right in the city centre at the impressively modern and largest church in Iceland, the Hallgrimskirkja, before continuing on to the Harpa, an striking modern glass concert hall and onwards to a spectacular coastal view right next to a stainless steel boat sculpture: the Sólfarið (or “Sun Voyager”). Hungry? Don’t hesitate to stop for a meal of Hangikjöt, or smoked lamb, always accompanied by one of the many Icelandic beers to choose from.
You can choose whether to take advantage of one of the many English speaking free walking tours in Reykjavik, or, once you’ve reserved your trip with us we’ll send you a complete pack for your free day in the city: complete with a self-guide tour, fun facts and history, as well as top spots to eat depending on what you fancy!
Don’t want a quiet day? Fancy snorkelling between continental plates or venturing beneath a glacier and into a lava cave? Check out our list of extras and make the absolute most of your time in Iceland!
After an unforgettable few days full of fun and adventure, you’ll be picked up one last time from your hostel and taken to the Reykjavik airport (KEF) at a time that suits your flight. Bye bye Iceland!
